“Acknowledge your and others’ range of linguistic differences as resources, and draw on those resources to develop rhetorical sensibility”

  • My class was fairly diverse is many ways such as ethnicity, background, upbringing and age which all factored in to how we view the world and our writing. Our differences can be seen as resources rather than barriers in communication, as they can provide diverse perspective that can enhance our understanding of the world around us. By acknowledging and embracing these differences, we can develop a more nuanced understanding of the ways in which language is used to convey meaning and persuade others. This can help us to become more skilled in the art of effective communication, by enabling us to adapt our language and style to suit the needs and expectations of different audiences.
  • In the class specifically the professor asks the class to share our opinions on any given topic, this sparked debates regularly which enriched our understanding of the topic. The most memorable time a class debate was beneficial was when discussed cloning and the scientific and ethical consequences it came with. The class would not come to a conclusive policy on how cloning should work in the scientific field which furthered our understanding on the topic.
