Audience

The audience is another key part of the rhetorical situation and arguably the most important one to understand. You must know who your audience is in order to figure out what is the best way to reach them and persuade/education them. For example, if your audience is high school students of New York City you don’t want to write a dense research article because they probably do not want to read it and would probably prefer a fact sheet or a blog style post. Another example is if your target audience are specialists they would prefer the scientific article over a blog post. Knowing your audience is important because of you don’t understand who your audience is, then you may not use the proper genre, media or purpose that will appeal to them. And if you don’t appeal to the audience correctly there is not point in creating your article because it will fall on deaf ears.
